10am-7pm
 
*Wednesdays and Fridays 10am-5pm
 
*weekends as usual: Saturdays 10am-2pm and Sundays 1-4 pm.
 
 
Libraries try to cope with cuts
 
At a time when library usage is up, funding for public libraries continues to drop, causing libraries to cut hours, reduce programs and staff, decrease new purchases, and find other ways to make a little go a long way.
 
Lancaster County's libraries will split about $1.9 million under the new state budget. Sounds like a lot of money, but that is down $193,515 or 9.1 percent.
 
Lancaster County funding for local public libraries was $2.1 million in 2009 and dropped to $2 million in 2010. The commissioners did divide an additional $75,000 among local libraries.
 
A library is a vital presence in a community, especially now! Glenn R. Miller, the executive director of Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA), says it best on the PaLA website:
“Demand for library services is up dramatically during this recession. Libraries all across Pennsylvania are busier than ever before serving people looking for work, families on tight budgets, and retirees grappling with shrinking savings. Budget cuts will reduce library services for the very people who need libraries the most.”
